Tens of thousands of people gathered at protests in Belgrade and Nis on Dec. 22.
A large-scale student protest in downtown Belgrade, joined by farmers and numerous citizens, opened with chants of "Vucic leave" and "You have blood on your hands," as thousands of mobile phone flashlights lit up the crowd.
A 15-minute-long silence followed, in honor of the 15 people who died when a concrete roof collapsed at the main Novi Sad railway station. In Nis, the protest began with 16 minutes of silence in tribute to those who died in Novi Sad and Zagreb.
At Belgrade's downtown Slavija square, BETA's reporter said, at one point a Serbian flag dozens of meters long appeared eliciting a massive response followed by the singing of the Serbian anthem. The protesters carried a sign reading "We Are All under the Roof."
