U.S. Ambassador to Kosovo Jeffrey Hovenier, stated that the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) was investigating an attack on the Ibar-Lepenac canal in northern Kosovo, the portal Kossev reported on Dec. 21.
The diplomat explained that his country had secured the support of the FBI for the case, and that an investigation was in progress. "We brought the support of the FBI here in Kosovo to directly and fully cooperate with Kosovo's law enforcement agencies in identifying those responsible and to ensure that the investigation is credible, comprehensive, and reaches the appropriate conclusions," he said.
Ambassador Hovenier emphasized that once the truth was uncovered, the U.S. would work with the Kosovo authorities to bring those responsible to justice.
"It is never appropriate for an ambassador to comment on law enforcement investigations, and these investigations are still underway. All I can say about the evidence, suggestions, or the direction the investigation is taking is that the U.S. government is not yet in a position to state that we have reached any conclusions, or that we know who is responsible for the attack," the ambassador said.
