On Dec. 30 the Belgrade Higher Court convicted and sentenced the parents of the 14-year-old boy who committed mass murder at Belgrade's Vladislav Ribnikar elementary school on May 3, 2023, Vladimir and Miljana Kecmanovic.
The boy's father was sentenced to 14 years and six months in prison, while his mother was sentenced to three years.
Vladimir Kecmanovic was convicted of a grave offense against public safety and of neglect and abuse of a minor, while Miljana Kecmanovic was convicted of child abuse and neglect, but was found not guilty of the charges of illegal production, possession, carrying and trade in weapons and explosive materials.
Nemanja Marinkovic, an instructor at the shooting range where the boy practiced shooting, was convicted of perjury and sentenced to one year and three months in prison.
Nenad Stefanovic, head prosecutor at the Belgrade Higher Prosecutor's Office, announced his office would appeal the not guilty section of the verdict for the mother, and the length of sentences for the father and shooting range instructor.
Nine students and a security guard died in the May 3, 2023 mass murder, committed when the shooter was 13, while five other students and a teacher were wounded.
