Branimir Nestorvic's We - the Strength of the People movement announced on Jan. 23 that it supported a general strike and all forms of nonviolent action against the authorities who, it said, with their "constant trampling" of the Constitution and their campaign promises, scandalous treatment of the media and privatizing of the state had turned into a "a regime."
In the statement the movement says that the Serbian authorities are turning the country into a disenfranchised foreign colony and offering themselves as faithful servants.
"Given that the regime headed by Aleksandar Vucic has rendered institutions and public dialogue meaningless, we believe that the only remaining means at the disposal of Serbia's citizens is nonviolent resistance, for the purpose of forcing the incumbent ruling majority to accept the creation of a cabinet charged with one thing: creating conditions for holding fair and honest elections in the corresponding media ambient," the movement says in the statement.
