The ambassadors of the European Union’s member states supported on Jan. 24 the appointment of Danish diplomat Peter Sorensen as the EU Special Representative for the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue.
The final approval of Sorensen's appointment will be provided by the EU's foreign ministers, who will decide on the matter on Jan. 27, Radio Free Europe reported.
The outgoing EU special representative, Miroslav Lajcak, who has held the position for almost five years, will end his term on Jan. 31. Sorensen was nominated for the position by the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas.
Sorensen has extensive experience in the Western Balkans, having served as the EU's special representative and as head of the EU Delegation in Bosnia and Herzegovina and in North Macedonia, the EU high representative’s envoy in Serbia, and as an advisor for the UN Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK). He also worked with the OSCE Mission in Croatia.
