Employees of the business and media units of Radio Television of Vojvodina on Jan. 29 launched a petition which will in the coming days be handed over to the broadcaster's management and General Manager Goran Karadzic.
The petition, signed by about 150 employees so far, demands that RTV start working in line with the Constitution and laws of Serbia, internal documents regulating the functioning of RTV, the Serbian Journalists' Code of Ethics, program principles, and obligations of a public media service. "In the event that these four demands are not met, we expect and also demand your resignations and will address all competent regulatory bodies and institutions, after which we will choose the path of civil disobedience in further actions," says the call issued to the company management.
The first demand is that procedure be initiated for the dismissal of the acting editor-in-chief of the television's Channel 1, Nenad Cacic, and his closest associates. The employees are also calling for disciplinary action against all those responsible for inaccurate reporting (starting with Nov. 1, 2024) which deceives the public.
The employees also demand that reports from student blockades, drives and student and civil protests across Serbia be truthful, objective, professional, timely, specific, and broadcast in all news programs of Channel 1 and 2 of the television. They remind the television management that Serbian citizens - regardless of orientation of any kind - pay the fee and taxes that are the predominant source of funding for the broadcaster.
