A message in red left on the pavement after three-hour blockades of three major arteries in Novi Sad on Feb. 9 read "100 days, 0 answers," while the speakers invited people to take part in large demonstrations in Kragujevac on Feb. 15, Serbian Statehood Day.
According to protesting university students, the blockades were held to mark 100 days since the collapse of a concrete overhang at the Novi Sad main railway station, which claimed 15 lives and left two others in critical condition. Farmers driving tractors and motorcyclists joined the students and other citizens at the blockades.
The victims were honored in Novi Sad, Nis, several locations in Belgrade, and in other cities over the weekend. Representatives of the Serbian diaspora and citizens of Slovenia and Luxembourg rallied in front of the Serbian embassy in Ljubljana and in Luxembourg on Feb. 8. At the invitation of an initiative called The Bridge Stays, activists and other citizens assembled in front of the Serbian Broadcasting Corporation building in Belgrade to pay tribute to the people killed in the Novi Sad overhang collapse. The protesters, carrying signs with the names of the victims blocked traffic in front of the building.
