European Parliament delegation for relations with Serbia chief Loucas Fourlas met in Belgrade on Feb. 25 with senior Serbian officials on reforms and Serbia’s European integration.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said on Instagram that “Serbia remains on the European path” and that this was confirmed by reforms and its economic stability.

During a meeting with Serbian Prime Minister Milos Vucevic, Fourlas said that the EU was not whole without Serbia and the Western Balkans, saying that significant progress had been reached in the association process and that it was necessary to continue working on reforms and harmonizing the country with EU standards.

Fourlas said that, during his five-year term, he would strive to ensure that Serbia moved closer to the EU, adding that his native Cyprus was ready to offer all of the necessary technical aid to reform processes in Serbia to improve the state of law, the state of human rights, economic growth and stability in the region.

During a talk with Serbian Parliament Speaker Ana Brnabic, Fourlas stressed that Serbia was key to stability in the Western Balkans and that stepping up the pace of reforms in an inclusive way was needed, along with solutions to existing problems, a statement from parliament said.

Serbian Foreign Minister Marko Djuric told Fourlas that the position of Serbs in Kosovo “is very difficult” and that Kosovo Premier Albin Kurti’s regime “is trying to make living conditions for the Serbs as unbearable as possible,” a statement from the ministry said.
