The authorities in Kosovo have started to count 68,712 mail-in ballots after Kosovo’s parliamentary elections on Feb. 9, the Central Election Commission of Kosovo announced on Feb. 28.
"We are now counting the ballots from the last several polling places in diplomatic missions, and have also started to count mail-in ballots," the Commission said, adding that 15,352 people voted in Kosovo’s diplomatic and consular offices, while 68,712 voted by mail.
By Feb. 28, the Central Election Commission had processed 93.02% of ballots cast in diplomatic missions. According to the results so far, with counting completed in 40 out of 43 ballot boxes, the Self-Determination Movement is in the lead with 80.75% of the vote, followed by the Democratic Party of Kosovo with 7.48%, and the Democratic League of Kosovo with 7.45%. The Alliance for the Future of Kosovo and the Initiative received 1.93% of the vote, while the Coalition for the Family secured 0.76%.
Political analysts in Kosovo believe that mail-in ballots, along with votes from diplomatic missions, conditional votes, and ballots from people with special needs, could be decisive in the Self-Determination and non-Serb minority MPs creating a government.
