Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said that on March 7, he had “a good, substantive, and, some would say, excellent conversation” with Russian president Vladimir Putin with whom he discussed bilateral cooperation.

In an Instagram post Vucic said that Putin and he discussed “issues of exceptional importance for Serbia,” including a new gas arrangement before May 31, and a strategy for the situation surrounding the Oil Industry of Serbia (NIS) which faces U.S. sanctions. The president also said that he told Putin that “people in Serbia are concerned about attempts at a color revolution in Serbia,” and that he was grateful that Russian officials were not supporting it. "He has a precise stance, he sees what is happening well, and he will continue to support the legal and legitimately elected authorities in Serbia," Vucic said.

One of the important topics that they discussed was the situation in the region, Vucic said, adding that he conveyed a message from President of Republika Srpska Milorad Dodik to Putin. "Putin understands the situation in the region very well, he can see that the actions by the High Representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina (Christian Schmidt) have only one purpose  – to overthrow Milorad Dodik," Vucic said.

Vucic underlined that it “was very important for him, and a great privilege” to confirm the that he would lead a delegation to Moscow on May 9 to attend the 80th anniversary of the victory over fascism, where he will “proudly represent Serbia in the Red Square.” Vucic stated that he also discussed the recovery of trade and opportunities to improve  economic cooperation with Putin.
