Several public figures who are close to the authorities have broadcast invitations, via video clips, to the rally in front of the Assembly of Serbia in the evening of Saturday, April 12, organized by the “Movement for People and Country” headed by Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic.
The Danas daily reported on April 10 that messages by public figures were being published on Instagram by the Center for Social Stability from Novi Sad, a non-governmental organization close to the ruling Serbian Progressive Party.
The following public figures sent the invitation to this rally: actresses Lidija Vukicevic, Iva Strljic and Jelena Djukic, tennis player Janko Tipsarevic, basketball players Dejan Tomasevic and Marko Keselj, actors Lepomir Ivkovic and Rastko Jankovic, opera principal singer Ljubica Vranes, TV anchor Zivko Nikolic, neurologist Svetlana Miletic Drakulic, surgeon Goran Stanojevic, mathematician Stojan Radenovic and Dragoslav Bokan, who was presented as a film director.
Earlier, many public figures declared their support to the students in blockade, including the world’s best tennis player, Novak Djokovic, the holder of the highest number of trophies among European basketball coaches, Zeljko Obradovic, one of the best European basketball players, Dejan Bodiroga, the once best handball player of the world, Veselin Vujovic and one of the world’s best track and field athletes, Ivana Spanovic. Public support to the students has been declared by almost all actors of the Belgrade theaters, by painters, writers, directors Emir Kusturica, Goran Markovic among others, by composers, physicians, lawyers (Ivan Ninic, Borivoje Borovic, Bozo Prelevic…), musicians Momcilo Bajagic Bajaga, Zoran Kostic Cane, Bob Geldof, Manu Chao, Zika Milenkovic, Vojislav Bubisa Simic and by Rade Serbedzija.
