National Assembly Speaker Ana Brnabic has announced for April 14 a sitting of the parliament where a new government will be elected, saying that Prime Minister-designate Djuro Macut - an endocrinologist - deserves to be given a chance by MPs.
"I hope that the sitting will be able to start already on Monday, because we must finish that by midnight on April 18, but it's not all right for us to work on Good Friday either. We will know the names of the ministers and the exposé then, but that primarily depends on the prime minister-designate. I am in contact with him daily, he is working hard on it. That is good news for Serbia, he is a man of dialogue," Brnabic told public broadcaster RTS on April 11.
On the subject of the opposition, she said that it was "OK for us to disagree, but there are words for that, dialogue and institutions."
"I am also calling on opposition representatives in parliament to talk, to give professor Macut a chance. That is the least he has deserved with all that he has done for our country in his life. It's our turn to listen to him, we, members of parliament, to hear him out and ask questions," said Brnabic.
The Serbian parliament on March 19 acknowledged the resignation submitted by previous prime minister Milos Vucevic. Vucevic tendered an irrevocable resignation on Jan. 28, after an attack on protesting students in Novi Sad. By acknowledging the prime minister's resignation, the government becomes a caretaker one and a 30-day period for the election of a new cabinet starts.
