The European Union's expectations from Serbia are "nearly exactly the same" as the ones that have been expressed by thousands of demonstrators across the country for months, Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos has said. Kos is slated to visit Belgrade at the end of April.

"Serbia has to be brought back on the European track," Marta Kos said in an interview with the European Newsroom published on April 16.

"What we are demanding from Serbia on the way of the EU accession is nearly exactly the same as what the protesters in Serbia are demanding," said the EU official.

She added that the demands were about the rule of law, combating corruption and transparency in public procurement procedures.

The European commissioner, who will visit Belgrade in late April, said that she expected the new Serbian government to be "pro-European and pro-reform."
