Patriarch Porfirije Informs Putin That Vucic Will Visit Moscow on May 9

Patriarch Porfirije of the Serbian Orthodox Church spoke with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow on April 22, the Church announced citing Russian media.

According to the Russian News Agency TASS, Putin stated that the Serbian Orthodox Church significantly contributes to the traditionally warm and close ties between the two countries’ peoples, adding he expected Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic to attend Moscow’s upcoming 80th anniversary celebration of the victory in World War II.

“We are always glad to see you. We expect the Serbian President in Moscow on May 9 for the celebration of the victory in the Great Patriotic War,” Putin said during his meeting with Patriarch Porfirije and Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and all Rus’.

Patriarch Porfirije responded that the president of Serbia plans to attend the May 9 festivities regardless of the circumstances in Europe and gave Putin Vucic’s regards, the Russian RIA Novosti reported.

“Of course, we are on very good terms with the president. He sends his regards and told me he would be here on May 9, regardless of the situation in Europe,” the Serbian patriarch said.
