Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said in the Zlatibor District on May 31 that the June 8 local elections in Kosjeric and Zajecar were important because Serbia "is under attack from within and externally" and that "they are trying to tear it down from various sides."

"An independent, freedom-loving Serbia suits no one but our people. The strength you give us is enormous and has been proven in every election. I hope that you will lend us this strength in this one as well. We will keep Serbia safe together. We will not give up Serbia, we will not give up Kosjeric. On to victory on Sunday!" Vucic said in Seca Reka, near Kosjeric.

He said the opposition "will try to take down this election, because they know they are going to lose. They will do everything they have been doing for days," and adding that he did not want to talk about the opposition. "I am not going to say anything, because I was wrong for giving too much attention to people who do not like to work and have attacked Serbia. I want to give attention to the people, to the people who want to work and who believe in Serbia," Vucic said, then announcing a series of infrastructure projects.

He said the 43-kilometer Kosjeric-Valjevo road was in need of reconstruction, stating that this required "an enormous amount of money" -- EUR17 million, for the area to develop, adding that a local road needed to be renewed too and that "people are rejoicing about that more than the highway."
