The best way to overcome the ongoing crisis in Serbia was to implement inclusive reforms, particularly in the media sector and electoral process, EU Enlargement Commissioner Marta Kos said on June 3.

Addressing the European Parliament’s Committee on Foreign Affairs, Kos said that the first step had been made by initiating the procedure for election of members to the Regulatory Authority for Electronic Media (REM).

“But making true progress in Serbia requires restoring public trust and engaging all interested parties. I have also told (Serbian) President (Aleksandar) Vucic that his visit to Moscow sends a wrong signal and complicates our efforts to advocate for Serbia,” Kos said.

She also said that Montenegro, Albania, Ukraine, and Moldova were the examples of successful implementation of reforms, noting that there was a real chance of one or two more countries joining the EU during this mandate.
