Local Elections in Serbia, June 2 2024 (BETAPHOTO/MILOS MISKOV)
Slavica Pantovic, the main candidate of the joint opposition ticket titled ‘United for Kosjeric’, said on June 4 that the town’s upcoming local election represents a turning point for the entire country because it will show whether or not the people can overcome fear.
Speaking for the Danas daily, Pantovic claimed that the mere fact that a large number of regime officials descended on Kosijeric ahead of the June 8 vote proves how fearful the establishment is of the people’s true will.
“[June 8] is D day. The people will show that they are stronger than blackmail and pressure. We know that schemes are being set in motion, as they were during the previous vote. But this time we’re ready – we will have people [monitoring] at every polling station. Every ballot box will be guarded,” said Pantovic, whose ticket is supported by local university students.
According to her, the regime “has been leading a dirty campaign, offering packages of food and hygiene supplies, taking signatures [in exchange for promising to] pave roads, using blackmail, disseminating lies and employing manipulation.”
