Local Elections in Kosovo (BetaPhoto/Sasa Djordjevic)
The Kosovo Assembly on April 28 continued its sitting for the election of president of Kosovo.
If the assembly fails to elect a new president by midnight on April 28, it will be automatically dissolved, while the Pristina cabinet will change its mandate to a caretaker government until an election.
The assembly sitting was interrupted in the evening on April 27, after the first round of voting, with presidential candidate Feride Rushiti receiving support from 63 MPs, with one invalid vote, while her rival Hatixhe Hoxha did not receive a single vote. The voting was held despite the lack of quorum, or the minimum of 80 MPs needed for a valid election.
A sitting held earlier on April 27 also failed to secure a quorum, as it was boycotted by opposition MPs from the Democratic Party of Kosovo, the Democratic League of Kosovo, the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo, and the Serb List party.
Before nomination of new presidential candidates, Glauk Konjufca and Fatmire Kollcaku had officially withdrawn their candidacies.
