The U.S. Embassy in Pristina announced on June 12 that this date in 1999, when NATO forces entered Kosovo, was a turning point, because they brought hope, security and a path to peace.

On the occasion of 26 years since the deployment of international forces, which is viewed in Kosovo as the liberation from Serbia, the U.S. Embassy stated that June 12, 1999 had “enabled the displaced families to return and the communities to start the reconstruction.”

“On this anniversary, we honor the perseverance of the people of Kosovo and out joint commitment to the building of a future based on peace, security and prosperity,” the Embassy stated. In Kosovo, June 12 is celebrated as the day of liberation and is marked by a number of events organized by the central institutions and the local authorities.
