European Democrats
The European Democratic Party said in a statement on July 12 that N1 TV journalists "are facing threats, defamation" and that Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic "is fueling this toxic climate with his words."
"President Aleksandar Vucic claims to be leading Serbia towards the European Union -- yet under his watch, the journalists at N1 face threats, defamation, and even horrific evocations of [the French satyrical weekly] Charlie Hebdo," the statement posted on the X social media platform says.
The European Democrats went on to state that Vucic was fostering a toxic atmosphere. "Let's be clear: Vucic is fueling this toxic climate with his words. A regime that targets free media does not belong in the European family. As European Democrats, we stand firmly with those in Serbia and beyond who defend truth against authoritarianism," the statement reads.
N1 TV received a threatening letter in the mail on July 11 "recalling" the deadly attack on the French satyrical weekly Charlie Hebdo in which 12 people were killed.
