Zoran Sekulic, the founder and editor in chief of FoNet news agency, died after a brief illness at the age of 67, his family said in a statement.
Sekulić was born on Sept. 6, 1958 in Belgrade. He graduated from the Faculty of Law of the University of Belgrade in 1981, starting his career in journalism the following year.
Amid disagreements with the editorial policy of Tanjug, then state-owned news agency, he resigned as politics editor in the fall of 1992, and shortly after left the agency to establish FoNet, his own news agency, which was launched on Feb. 7, 1994.
Sekulic was a member of the Managing Boards of the Serbian Media Association and the Press Council. By the decree of French President Francois Hollande, Sekulic was decorated with the Order of the Legion of Honor, in the rank of Chevalier (Knight). Funeral details will be announced by the family, FoNet has reported.
