The Serbian government is announcing a development program for the period until the year 2035 not having fulfilled the current one -- A Leap into the Future 2027, the Nova Ekonomija publication reported on July 23.
Since the first mention of A Leap into the Future, announcements included both infrastructure projects (roads, railways, sewage systems) and the BIO4 Campus project and large investments in energy. While these projects are listed on the website of A Leap into the Future, they cannot be found on the capital projects list, which shows the dates of each project's planned completion and cost.
Even this list of projects was difficult for the public to gain access to and it was only in consultation with the International Monetary Fund that the Serbian authorities undertook to release information on projects whose value exceeds EUR20 million. The value of BIO4 Campus is in the hundreds of millions of euros according to reports, as it is not on the list.
Nova Ekonomija also mentioned the EXPO 2027 exhibition in Belgrade, which involves the construction of a new fairground (expected value EUR1.2 billion) and of the "Zone B" that will include a forum, exhibition halls, parking and landscaping, and is due to take place in 2027, and the National Stadium (expected value EUR576 million), also planned with a completion date in 2027. Though the government claims this will bring financial gains and good promotion for Serbia, economics analysts are not as convinced of success.
