On July 28, Serbia’s new ambassador in Washington Dragan Sutanovac presented his credentials to U.S. President Donald Trump and invited him to visit Belgrade, stating that the two countries have the potential to strengthen cooperation in the energy sector as well as the fields of artificial intelligence, infrastructure and defense, among many others.
“I submitted my letter of credence to President Donald Trump at the White House, officially assuming the position of Serbian ambassador to the U.S. We had a friendly and constructive talk on the relationship between Serbia and the U.S., where I reminded President Trump that no American president has visited Serbia since 1980 – and invited him to be the first to change this [trend],” Sutanovac wrote on social media.
The last U.S. president to visit Belgrade was Democrat Jimmy Carter, in 1980.
