For the sixth time, the United States Department of Treasury has delayed its sanctions on Serbia’s multinational oil and gas company Naftna Industrija Srbije (NIS), this time until Sept. 26, the RTS public broadcaster reported on Aug. 27.

According to Mining and Energy Minister Dubravka Djedovic Handanovic, “NIS will continue to provide a stable supply of oil and petroleum derivatives to the domestic market even under these difficult circumstances.”

The minister went on to say that the “end goal is having NIS removed from the U.S. Department of Treasury’s OFAC sanctions list, which is a process that does not depend on Serbia.”

Djedovic Handanovic also expressed her hope that the continuation of high-level talks between the United States and Russia will result in progress regarding the entire package of U.S. sanctions on Russian companies.
