Milos Vucevic (BETAPHOTO/MILOS MISKOV)
On Sept. 3, Milos Vucevic, the leader of the ruling Serbian Progressive Party, called on the public to rally in some 120 cities and towns throughout the country on Sept. 7 in protest of the ongoing blockades, but also as “a kind of family gathering.”
“Those are the values we believe in while not denying other people the right to believe in something else or rally for a different cause,” Vucevic told Happy TV and recalled that the anti-blockade rallies were moved from Sept. 6 to Sept. 7 on account of Belgrade Pride.
The former PM went on to state that this year’s Pride parade belongs to the blockaders.
“They’ve taken a clear political stance. Until now, [the parade] always included certain political messages but put an emphasis on [the LGBTQ+] community’s issues and some systemic values, as they call them, I won’t go into that now. Now, for the first time, the Belgrade Pride has put politics at the forefront by expressing open support to the blockader movement. [The event] has always had political overtones but is now unmistakably political,” Vucevic concluded.
