Dejan Atanackovic (BETAPHOTO/MILAN ILIC)
Writer and visual artist Dejan Atanackovic said on Sept. 4 that "what the regime of Aleksandar Vucic leaves behind is far from anything that we saw in the past as an expression of an ideology including those of the worst regimes in history," he said, adding that the monument to Stefan Nemanja in Belgrade "is the pinnacle of pathology."
"First of all there is no ideology here, nor any idea that could eventually result in some kind of an amalgam, a consistent artistic expression, let alone a style, direction or tendency," Atanackovic told the Vreme weekly in an interview.
He said that "the only 'ideology' is plunder, the only 'artistic" tendency has to do with the modality of money-laundering." "For something to be monumental, ergo monstrous, threatening and overly expensive or cheap, feeble and lame, so that the taxpayers' money is extracted through an unreasonably high price of production, or for a 'monument' to not be produced but for the budget to be robbed to cover the costs of some kinds of commissions and prizes," Atanackovic explained.
"The fake Nemanja in Savski Trg square is undoubtedly the pinnacle of a pathology, as if it does serve any purpose it is a 'monument' to Aleksandar Vucic's narcissistic personality disorder, but it is also a lucidly executed plan for robbing citizens," Atanackovic stressed.
