Washington has suspended its strategic dialogue with Kosovo until further notice, the U.S. Embassy in Pristina announced on Sept. 12.
The decision was made in response to actions by the outgoing cabinet that, according to the U.S., have increased tensions and instabilities, and complicated cooperation on shared priorities. “We remain committed to advancing the interests shared by the U.S. and the people of Kosovo. Our relationship with Kosovo is built on the common goal of strengthening peace and stability as the foundation for joint economic prosperity. Unfortunately, the actions and statements of the outgoing prime minister, Albin Kurti, have been a challenge to the progress achieved over the years,” the Embassy explained in the release.

The Embassy also said that the strategic dialogue between the two countries was designed to facilitate stronger economic and diplomatic ties for the benefit of American and Kosovo citizens alike, adding that that the U.S. hoped the process would be restored in the future, once the proper conditions were in place.
The U.S. Department of State runs strategic dialogues with partner countries worldwide to strengthen bilateral ties, including high-level talks on defense, security, the environment, energy, and economic cooperation.
