The Serbian Progressive Party’s leader, Milos Vucevic said on Sept. 29 that he had been invited to meet with the European People’s Party (EPP) leaders on Oct. 22, after the pan-European conservative party had launched an internal probe into the actions of Serbia’s ruling party.

Vucevic told K1 TV that the Serbian speaker, Ana Brnabic, also a member of the Progressive Party’s presidency, had been invited, too. The Serbian Progressive Party has been an associate member of the EPP since 2016.

“Ana and I received the invitation to meet with the European People’s Party, if I’m not mistaken, on Oct. 22, in order to discuss complaints related to the Serbian Progressive Party,” Vucevic said, expressing confidence that “everything will be fine” as to the Party’s status in the EPP.

The EPP said on Sept. 25 that it had begun “an internal verification process regarding the role” of the Serbian Progressive Party in the EPP, bringing together Europe’s center-right parties.

“This is not an official statutory procedure for suspension or expulsion from the EPP, but rather a thorough and swift internal investigation with an open outcome,” the EPP, the largest political group in the European Parliament, clarified.
