Marko Djuric (BETAPHOTO/MINISTARSTVO SPOLJNIH POSLOVA SRBIJE)
Serbian Foreign Minister Marko Djuric in Belgrade on Sept. 30 said that Serbia supported the peace plan of US President Donald Trump, and demanded from Hams to immediately release all the hostages and that all proposed provisions of the agreement on ending the war in the Gaza Strip be fully implemented.
Speaking at a joint news conference with his Israeli counterpart Gideon Sa’ar, Djuric said that Alon Ohel, a dual national of Serbia and Israel, had been held captive by Hamas for more than 800 days, “in horrible conditions for a human being.” Sa’ar said that Israel wished to see “a different Gaza – deradicalized and demilitarized, which does not pose a threat to Israel or its citizens.”
Djuric and Sa’ar said that the relations between Serbia and Israel were based on decades of good cooperation and “the joint suffering of their peoples and unwavering faith in the future.” Djuric said that Serbia viewed Israel as “one of the key strategic partners”, adding that the two countries had agreed to launch a strategic dialogue “in order to further enhance their collaboration through interagency cooperation and the future joint economic committee.”
The ministers signed the Agreement on Bilateral Communications and the Program of Cooperation in the fields of Culture, Sports, Youth, Science, and Technology, while Djuric signed the Survivors’ Declaration, the details of which were not disclosed. The Serbian foreign minister also said that the two countries were facing historical revisionism and that their common goal was to resist it. Sa’ar said that negotiations on a free trade agreement were progressing.
Earlier on Sept. 30, Sa’ar met with Serbian Parliament speaker Ana Brnabic and Prime Minister Djuro Macut. Brnabic said that the political relations between Serbia and Israel were stable and at a high level. Brnabic and Sa’ar, according to a statement from the Serbian Parliament, exchanged views on bilateral cooperation, saying they expected political dialogue and cooperation to continue in the coming period through more intensive high-level contacts.
