Ana Brnabic, the Serbian Parliament speaker and an official of the Serbian Progressive Party, on Oct. 1 said that the Progressives had good communication with representatives of the European People’s Party (EPP) and some of its member parties.
Brnabic said she would attend a meeting of the EPP international secretaries in Barcelona, taking place Oct. 2 and 3, adding that the Progressives’ delegation would talk with the EPP leadership in Brussels on Oct. 22.
“The very fact that I will attend the meeting on Oct. 2, and that Minister Nemanja Starovic, on behalf of the Progressive, was a member of the EPP delegation to Lebanon just a few days ago, show the news that the Progressives are on the verge of being kicked out of the EPP is so false”, Brnabic told a news conference at the Serbian Parliament.
She also said that scheduling snap parliamentary elections, as demanded by the protesting students, would not solve the social and political crisis, noting that they were requesting early elections only to have an excuse for taking to the streets and continuing to protest. “Only Serbia has political parties waiting for a tragedy to happen so that they could use it as a reason to demand elections,” Brnabic said.
