On Oct. 6, the leaders of the Western Balkans will meet in Durres, Albania, for the latest summit of the Brdo-Brioni Initiative. The main topic will be the region’s European future, with a special emphasis on the EU’s Growth Plan for the Western Balkans.

The Brdo-Brioni Initiative is a joint Slovenian-Croatian project launched in 2013 and includes Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia and Serbia. Its goal is to promote mutual cooperation and help its members on their journey to joining the European Union.

This year’s summit is titled “Joint Interests, Joint Dedication, Joint Future: Together toward the EU.” In addition to discussions about the region’s European future, the meeting will focus on strengthening regional cooperation, the organizers announced.

The summit’s participants will pay special attention to implementing the EU’s Growth Plan for the Western Balkans, which enables the countries in the region to slowly integrate in the EU and brings concrete benefits to their citizens. To that end, the EU established a financial instrument for the 2024-2027 period, worth EUR6 billion.
