Starting Oct. 12, 2025, the phased implementation of the European Union’s new entry/exit system (EES) begins and will apply to all persons who are not EU citizens and do not have regulated residence in the Schengen Zone.
Given that Serbia borders four EU member states, the EES system will also apply to Serbian citizens when entering Croatia, Bulgaria, Romania, and Hungary, the Serbian Interior Ministry announced earlier. The Ministry explained that the system would initially be activated at certain border crossings and operate with limited working hours, gradually expanding to full operability.
In Croatia, the system will be introduced at the Batrovci–Bajakovo border crossing and Zagreb Airport; in Bulgaria, at the Gradina–Kalotina crossing; in Romania at Kaludjevo–Naidas. In Hungary, the rollout will be gradual, from Oct. 28 to Nov. 11, at the Tompa, Horgos, Backi Vinogradi, Bacalmas, Backi Breg, and Rabe-Kibekhaza border crossings among others.
The Ministry explained that for those without regulated residence in Hungary, who cross the border daily for business purposes, the registration process will start on Nov. 1. “A special file will be created for this category of travelers, valid for future crossings if they cross the state border at least four times within 30 days. If they cross it fewer than four times, new registration will be required,” the Ministry clarified.
