If Serbia does not change the current state of affairs, it will need almost 30 years to reach certain levels of development of EU member countries, shows research conducted by the Institute for Development and Innovation.

In the area of the economy, according to Institute Director Nenad Jevtovic, Serbia will need 35 years to reach the EU's average level.

He said pensions were the biggest economic problem, while as regards the average gross salary, estimates say that Serbia is 26 years away from reaching the European average.

It would take 29 years for GDP per capita to be level with that of the EU, whereas the equalizing of the minimum wage would take 25 years.

As for digitalization, according to the research Serbia is at 94 percent of the EU average in that field, i.e. it would take just six years to achieve the EU level, which is a good result.

Serbia is the furthest from the EU average in two areas - the  environment and infrastructure, as much as over 100 years away in jobs.
