The Center for Democracy Foundation said on Dec. 10 that Serbia had to carry out societal and state reforms in order to approach the standards of democracy, human rights and the rule of law enjoyed by the citizens of developed countries in Europe and the world.
"We see even greater guarantees for the protection of human rights in Serbia in accession to the European Union. It is crucially important to strengthen democratic institutions, enhance parliamentarianism, democratic political culture, freedom of the press, for citizens to express their opinions freely and take part in decision-making processes in their communities," the organization said in a press release on Dec. 10, International Day of Human Rights.
The statement read that respect for the rights, freedom and dignity of every individual was the foundation for a modern, democratic and regulated society. "So no-one stays sidelined, without access to education, health care services, social welfare. We must give every person attention and protection. That is a society that respects the equality, rights and dignity of all," the Center for Democracy Foundation statement read.
