Come the next parliamentary election, Serbia’s opposition should unite, rendering the vote akin to a referendum by supporting the ticket put forth by the country’s protesting university students, said Biljana Stojkovic, a member of the Democratic Party presidency. Furthermore, the opposition should invest all its resources in ensuring the student ticket defeats Serbia’s current “mafia regime,” she stated.
“The only relevant divide with regards to elections is whether you are for or against the mafia. We have yet to win the right to the civilizational institution of offering and competing with varying political and ideological visions. [Our reality] is starkly different from political theory given that we live in a state of emergency where our civil rights have been abolished. It would be wise to recognize this and act accordingly,” Stojkovic told the Dec. 15 edition of the Nova daily.
The politician added that no one was surprised by Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic announcing he would run for prime minister given that he has boxed himself into a situation without alternatives.
