Migrants
In 2025, a total of 9,567 refugees and migrants passed through Serbia, which is half as many as in 2024, when the number was 18,899, the Commissariat for Refugees and Migration announced on Dec. 18, on occasion of International Migrants Day.
“The state of migrations in Serbia is stable and all institutions are working responsibly and keeping the situation under control, prepared for a possible surge in migrant numbers next year. Every migrant who passed through the centers operated by the Commissariat received lodging, food, clothes, medical care, and humane treatment from the centers’ personnel, while all children housed at the centers were given access to an education,” the press release reads.
According to the 2025 demographic statistics, the majority of migrants were adult males (71.18 percent), followed by underage males (20.23 percent), adult females (5.91 percent) and underage females (2.69 percent).
The five most common countries of origin of the migrants registered in 2025 are Afghanistan, Egypt, Turkey, Morocco and Syria.
At present, six reception and asylum centers are active in Serbia, housing a total of 235 migrants. Since 2015, the Commissariat has offered lodging and other services to over 1.5 million migrants from 120 countries.
