Local Elections in Kosovo (BetaPhoto/Sasa Djordjevic)
Commenting on early elections in Kosovo, Kosovska Mitrovica Mayor Milan Radojevic said on Dec. 18 that the expected even stronger pressure than ahead of the last elections in February, and that the elections were a turning point for the Serbs who had demonstrated that they could be united in achieving a goal.
Speaking on the early elections scheduled for Dec. 28 in Kosovo, Radojevic, an official of the Serb List, told the Serbian Broadcasting Corporation (RTS) that "is not normal" to have three election cycles in three years. "It is exhausting, but citizens must be aware of the importance of these elections, I have no dilemma that they will vote en masse and win nine seats. The previous three years in Kosovo were extremely hard, the reality is that we would not have survived without the support of the [Serbian] government and Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic," Radojevic said.
He added that acting premier of Kosovo Albin Kurti tried to "break the biggest resistance in Kosovska Mitrovica" and shut down the North Mitrovica district, but that Serbian citizens, he said, had shown that they did not want unification but to live in the special district of North Mitrovica.
The election campaign in Kosovo began on Dec. 18. The Serb List, the For Freedom, Justice and Survival and the Kosovo Alliance are running in the elections.
