A delegation of the Democratic Party, consisting of its president Srdjan Milivojevic and a member of the party’s presidency, Nebojsa Zelenovic, is paying a two-day visit to Brussels, where they discussed “the re-establishing of democratic institutions in Serbia” with collocutors from Europe.
“The Democrats’ delegation pointed out the continuous and systemic pressures by which the regime of Aleksandar Vucic is attempting to completely usurp the judiciary, and to the grave undermining of its independence. During the discussion, the participants readily concurred that independent judiciary must not be obstructed or submitted to political pressure, because there is no democratic society without the rule of law,” the party declared in a statement on Dec. 18.
“The Democratic Party remains consistently committed to the idea of a European Serbia and to the building of a stable a prosperous Western Balkans, based on democratic values, rule of law and respect for human rights,” the statement reads.
During the visit, the Democrats’ delegation will have a series of meetings with European partners and discuss the situation in the region, while the central events will be the session of the Presidency of the Party of European Socialists and the summit of the leaders of social-democratic parties, to compose the Declaration on the defense of Europe, its interests and values.
