Former Army Headquarters Complex (BETAPHOTO/MILOS MISKOV)
According to an opinion poll conducted by portal Savremena Politika, the results of which were published on Dec. 23, most of the respondents, 64.3 percent, entirely or mostly disagree with the government’s plan to have the site of the Army General Staff complex in downtown Belgrade redevelop into a commercial complex majority-owned by Jared Kushner, the son-in-law of US President Donald Trump.
According to the survey, 44.5 percent of the respondents said they “entirely” opposed and 19.9 percent “mostly disagreed” with the undertaking, while 28.1 percent “mainly supported” and 7.6 percent “entirely supported” the project.
In total, the undertaking received support from 35.7 percent of the respondents. Nearly half of the surveyed, 47.3 percent, believed that corrupt practices were involved in the project “to a large extent,” and 17 percent that corruption was present “to a smaller scale.”
Only 16.6 percent of the polled believed it was a corruption-free project, while 19 percent responded they could not know about possible corrupt practices. The polling, covering 1,000 Serbia’s citizens, was conducted via telephone from Dec. 3 to 11, 2025, shortly before Kushner’s decision to drop the project.
