In saying that Iran’s ongoing unrest shows evidence of involvement by the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and Israel’s Mossad, President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic is drawing Serbia into global conflict because Washington and Tel Aviv may take Vucic’s words as a political message, former Serbian diplomat Srecko Djukic said on Jan. 19.
“Those statements can cause damage to Serbia’s foreign relations. [Serbia] is not an actor in Middle Eastern conflicts nor does it have any interest in offering interpretations that accuse two of the West’s most influential intelligence services,” Djukic told the Nova daily.
Such claims, he said, can objectively be construed as a narrative hostile toward the U.S. and Israel, whereby Serbia is being drawn into global conflicts and intelligence wars for which it is no match.
Djukic concluded that such statements additionally complicate Serbia’s position and create confusion in the country’s foreign policy.
