Director Goran Markovic said on Jan. 29 that the student rebellion "was somehow the most brilliant part of my life in a social sense," adding that "I suddenly realized that there was something that people felt."
"Why? Because [Slobodan] Milosevic and [Aleksandar] Vucic worked systematically to divide people into friends and enemies, ours and theirs, us and them. People began moving toward each other. I haven't seen people hug so much in years. That is so exciting and sentimental," Markovic said in an interview with Nedeljnik.
"The student plenums were such a huge pleasant surprise to me even though I did not participate in any, but the students related to me what was discussed there and how decisions were made. That is very sensible, at least in this transitional phase, where everyone has their own opinion and their voice that is channeled with numbers," Markovic said, adding that he had never understood why old people were afraid that something would happen to them if they rebelled.
"Many old people are reluctant: 'That is for the young'. Youth can lose, older people can't. This fear in old people is irrational. It is actually a projection of their fear of the end, and not of what is happening," Markovic said.
