Serbia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) view nuclear energy as an option that can secure a stable energy supply in the period of decarbonization and, in view of the projected growth in consumption in the years and decades to come, enable a reliable and clean production of basic energy.

This was announced on Feb. 4 after a meeting of Serbian Mining and Energy Minister Dubravka Djedovic Handanovic with the executive director of the Emirates Nuclear Energy Company (ENEC), Mohamed Ibrahim Al Hammadi.

“ENEC has demonstrated readiness to share with us their roadmap for establishing a nuclear program and for the further development of cooperation in this matter with our institutions and companies,” Djedovic Handanovic said after the meeting in Dubai, adding that the experience of ENEC provided a better insight into the requirements and challenges brought by implementing the Nuclear Energy Program pertaining to the storing and managing radioactive waste, procurement of nuclear fuel, engaging all the relevant parties in the project and exploring financing options.

The minister pointed out that this company had cooperated with a number of nuclear technology bearers throughout the world, and that their insight and assessment of nuclear technologies available on the market was significant. “We will consider whether Serbia could join the international ENEC program, where they share their experience and discuss investments in nuclear programs in countries around the world, and we will continue the talks toward formalizing cooperation that we launched today (Feb. 4),” she stated.
