Macut: Reforms in Serbia Were Never A Formality, But A Clear Political Decision

Serbian Prime Minister Djuro Macut stated on Feb. 5 that the reforms in Serbia were never a mere formality, but a clear political decision directed toward building a more stable state, more modern economy and a society based on knowledge, with visible results.

Speaking at a panel discussion titled “From Reforms to Results: How do States Progress,” at the end of the visit to the World Government Summit – WGS in Dubai, Macut said that Serbia had preserved macroeconomic stability and created a predictable business environment, “with almost EUR70 billion in total trade with the world and a strong inflow of foreign direct investments.”

He pointed out that the IT sector, exporting almost four billion euros worth, represented one of the key drivers of the further development of the country, the Serbian government quoted him as saying. He said that Serbia paid special attention on the development of artificial intelligence in a clear strategic and ethical framework, and to the modernization of education and regulatory environment, with the aim of the country actively participating in shaping future technologies.

He also stressed that Serbia was open for partnerships and ready to contribute to a more stable, connected and prosperous international environment. The Serbian government recollected that, this year, the World Government Summit rallied more than 6,000 participants from around the world, thus confirming the status of one of the most important global fora dedicated to the future of governance.
