In a Feb. 6 meeting in Brussels, Serbian Justice Minister Nenad Vujic discussed judicial law amendments in Serbia with Gert Jan Koopman, Director General for General Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations at the European Commission.
"Minister Vujic stressed the importance of the continual monitoring of reformatory processes and informed the director general that preparatory actions had been taken for obtaining an urgent opinion from the Venice Commission about the adopted amendments to several judicial laws," a press release from the ministry read.
Vujic also said that he had asked that an urgent session of the High Prosecutorial Council be held on Feb. 20 to bring decisions on prosecutors. He added that the Justice Ministry would be in daily communication with the European Commission starting Feb. 9, when the amendments come into force.
The minister stressed that Serbia was ready to work with the EC to accelerate the implementation of reforms. "Vujic and Koopman also discussed the implementation of interim benchmarks within Chapter 23 and agreed to include in the near future specific activities, rated as critical, from the interim benchmarks, in order to increase efficiency and accelerate the process of their fulfilment," the press release read.
