President of the Democratic Party Srdjan Milivojevic said on Feb. 7 that his party had asked European officials in Brussels to impose personal sanctions against Serbian government officials, explaining that they would not affect ordinary people in Serbia, or disrupt their lives.

Milivojevic wrote on X that the Democrats had requested personal sanctions against “representatives of the mafia regime, the leaders of the Serbian Narco Party, known by the local acronym SNS, and the police officers who beat our children and citizens in the streets, while narcotics smoothly poured into the Progressives’ warehouses.”

“Personal sanctions (…) do not affect ordinary people and do not disrupt their lives. On the contrary, they are directed against the ruling mafia not against those who are the victims of crime, or rather, the citizens of Serbia. Jail for the mafia,” Milivojevic said.

The Democratic Party's leader was promptly answered on X by senior Serbian Progressive Party official and Serbian Speaker Ana Brnabic who said that representatives of the Democratic Party were boycotting the Serbian parliament by not attending sessions, but were not boycotting Brussels. “They regularly receive their salaries, although they do not come to work. So far they have collected over half a million euros fron the citizens of Serbia – for not working. And when they did come, they wore T-shirts and jeans, whereas in Brussels they wear suits and ties. With every gesture they have been showing disrespect toward Serbia and its citizens and showing their sycophantic mentality as well,” Brnabic wrote, commenting on Milivojevic’s photo from Brussels.
