Indignant over low purchase prices and the mass importation of milk, hundreds of dairy farmers from Central Serbia will block the Ibarska highway with tractors in Mrcajevci and Knic between 1 and 3 p.m. on Feb. 11, BETA learned from the representatives of multiple local associations.

The protesters also plan to spill hundreds of liters of milk in protest, demanding that the state introduce tariffs to reduce milk and dairy imports and protect the domestic dairy industry. The organizers of the protest have said that, should the authorities fail to invite them to talk, further steps will be determined on Feb. 11.

According to them, Serbia’s dairy industry is “ten times worse off than in 2023,” when temporary tariffs were introduced to aid the country’s flailing dairy producers. Today, certain creameries have reduced the purchase price of milk by RSD10 per liter – i.e. by around 30 percent – while some have ceased purchasing domestic milk altogether.

The members of the Association of Cattle Farmers of Central Serbia who will be blocking the Kragujevac-Kraljevo section of the Ibarska highway at Knic plan to spill milk in front of a local company that mass-imports milk and dairy.
