The director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija, Petar Petkovic, stated during the Feb. 25 meeting with the EU’s representative for the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue, Peter Sorensen, that, if Pristina starts implementing the Law on Foreigners and Motor Vehicles, more than 10,000 Serbs in Kosovo would be in jeopardy.

“These discriminatory regulations directly jeopardize more than 10,000 Serbs who live and work in Kosovo and Metohija, their fundamental human and civil rights, the right to work, freedom of movement, family life, health protection and education,” Petkovic said, as quoted by the Office.

Petkovic stated that it was necessary to start talks about the draft statute of the Community of Serb Municipalities. “Belgrade is ready to seek all sustainable and applicable solutions to problems that threaten the Serbs within the dialogue, in order to preserve peace and stability, while Pristina’s unilateral, illegal and escalatory moves lead to instability and more crises and tension on the ground,” the statement reads.
