Serbian Interior Minister Ivica Dacic, who was hospitalized on Feb. 25 due to bilateral pneumonia, remains seriously ill but is now stable, Dr Spasoje Popevic, the assistant director of the Clinical Center of Serbia’s Pulmonology Clinic, said on Feb. 26.
Dacic, who is also the leader of the Socialist Party of Serbia, was admitted to the hospital after suffering serious symptoms throughout the morning and was initially hooked up to a ventilator.
“The patient’s overall state is currently more stable, but his clinical picture is still severe and requires intense monitoring and treatment,” Popevic said in his morning statement.
Late on Feb. 25, Popevic had announced that Dacic was fighting for life and that the next 72 hours were critical. Twelve hours later, Popevic provided an update, adding it is still too early for a final prognosis.
The interior minister was visited in the evening of Feb. 25 and again in the morning of Feb. 26 by President Aleksandar Vucic, who then boarded a flight for Kazakhstan.
“I visited Ivica this morning. The doctors say [his] condition has somewhat improved. I have faith in him. And now, onward to Kazakhstan, where big things for our Serbia await. We have important talks on all areas of social life ahead [as well as] big treaties, and important agreements, and an excellent visit to Kazakhstan and with President [Kassym-]Jomart Tokayev. They are our country’s great friends and I expect excellent results,” Vucic told the press.
