Dacic Says His Socialists Ready for Presidential and Parliamentary Elections

The Socialist Party of Serbia is ready for the upcoming elections and party committees have been requested to nominate candidates for parliamentary and president elections over the next month, Ivica Dacic, leader of the Socialists, a member of the ruling coalition, said on July 28.  

“We are ready for both, parliamentary and presidential elections, although we still believe that they should be held at their regular intervals. This has been my political stand for years now. We expect good election outcomes, we have not changed our platform. It relies on two pillars - patriotism and socialism,” Dacic told the RTS public broadcaster. 

He also said that the Socialists are happy with what they have achieved with the major ruling Serbian Progressive Party, stressing that continuation of this coalition and cooperation is in Serbia’s interest, but added that everything will depend on citizens’ votes. 

Commenting on the assembly sitting on July 27, which discussed a motion of no confidence in the incumbent cabinet, Dacic described it as “an ordinary political performance” rather than a thorough debate on the Government’s work, adding that “various comments on various topic, which have nothing to do with the topic, were heard during the sitting.”
