During a Feb. 25 visit to N1 TV, French Ambassador to Serbia Florence Ferrari warned that freedom of the press and media pluralism are pillars of democratic life and, as such, must be preserved and protected.

Ferrari led her embassy’s delegation in a meeting with the directors and editors of N1 TV and of the Radar, Nova and Forbes Srbija periodicals to discuss the media situation in Serbia.

“French Ambassador to Serbia Flora Ferrari visited the office of N1 television and spoke with [its] journalists. The freedom of the press and media pluralism are foundational pillars of democratic life. They must be preserved and protected,” the Embassy of France posted on X.

The directors and editors of N1 TV, which has been operating within the newly-formed Adria News Network since Feb. 19, spoke with Ferrari and her team about the challenges they have faced for the last decade, the news outlet reported.

N1 added that the focus of the talks were the targeting of journalists and threats against reporters, the fact state institutions often ignore requests for information as well as the government’s mechanisms for curtailing professional journalism.
